Account and data deletion
Effective 28 August 2026 · Last updated: 21 October 2026
You can delete your Date to Marry account and the personal data attached to it at any time. This page explains how, what goes, what stays, and what happens to anyone you are matched with.
Deletion is permanent. Your profile, photographs, onboarding answers, conversations, and Companion data cannot be recovered afterwards. If you only want to step away for a while, pause your account in Settings instead: pausing takes you out of matching and hides your profile, and everything is still there when you come back.
1. How to delete your account
In the app
- Open Date to Marry and sign in.
- Go to the Me tab, then Settings.
- Scroll to the bottom and choose Delete my account.
- Read what will be deleted, then confirm. You may be asked to re-enter your password.
- Your account is scheduled for deletion and you receive a confirmation email.
By email
If you cannot get into the app, email hello@datetomarry.app from your registered email address, with the subject “Account Deletion Request”, and include your full name. We process these within 30 days and confirm when it is done.
2. What is deleted
| Data | When |
|---|---|
| Profile information: name, age, city, answers shown on your profile | Immediately |
| Onboarding answers, faith tradition, self-declared facts, and dealbreakers | Immediately |
| Partner journal entries and relationship check-in responses | Immediately |
| Push notification tokens | Immediately |
| Preferences, including distance and travel settings | Immediately |
| Photographs and introduction (voice or video) | Within 30 days |
| Messages and voice notes exchanged with matches | Within 30 days |
| Match reasons and compatibility scores | Within 30 days |
| Your identity verification at Didit: document images, selfie, the details read from your document and any biometric data made from them | Within 8 days |
3. What is kept, and why
A small amount of data has to survive deletion, because the law requires it or because removing it would let a banned account simply come back.
| Data | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Payment and transaction records | Up to 10 years | German commercial and tax law |
| Identity verification of an account we closed for fraud or a false identity | As long as the fraud requires | Evidence of the fraud, and stopping the same person re-registering. Every other member’s verification is erased (section 2) |
| Safety and moderation records, including reports filed by or against you | Up to 7 years | Ongoing safety investigations and legal proceedings |
| A one-way hash of your email address | Indefinitely | So we do not contact you again, and so a banned account cannot simply re-register |
| Anonymised usage and matching statistics | Indefinitely | Service improvement. Cannot be linked back to you. |
4. What happens to an active match
- The other person is told the connection has ended. They are not told that you deleted your account, only that the match has closed.
- The conversation stops being accessible to them after a short grace period.
- Your profile immediately stops being visible to anyone on the platform.
5. Companion data
Partner journal entries and relationship check-in responses are private to you. Your partner cannot see them before deletion and cannot see them after. They are deleted immediately.
6. Third-party providers
We instruct our processors to delete your data under our agreements with them. Our identity verification provider, Didit, erases every verification you started, including the images, the selfie and any biometric data, when we instruct it at deletion. Payment processors and app stores have their own legal retention obligations that we cannot override. The full list of providers is in our Privacy Policy.
7. Getting a copy first
You can ask for a copy of your data before you delete anything. Request an export in the app, or email hello@datetomarry.app from your registered address. We respond within 30 days. See Your rights.
